Book from his brother John (Jan) Ouradnik c1844.
"...Josef Ouradnik passed away suddenly on the 22nd day of December, 1900. On Dec 21st whith his son Aloys they drove into the woods for firewood. There they observed deer tracks so he took his musket and took out after the deer and wounded him so that the deer ran about 8 miles before he was able to bring him down. He could not manage to bring him in that day so he left him there and the next day he went after him along with his son Aloys. When they dragged it to the sleigh, he was taking the musket out of the slegh and was going to put it on the seat, he touched the trigger and a shot rang out. The slug went through his left hand and left cheek and through the neck. He gasped about twice and there was no further possibility of life. He was laid to rest in the cemetery at Beroun, Minnesota."
======
From Patty Ronzani
Grandma's father was John Marsicek, brother to Katherina Marsicek Ouradnik, wife of Joseph Ouradnik who is the half-brother of Katerina Ouradnik Stika. Joseph came to America with John and Katerina's family. Later their father and the rest of the Ouradnik family immigrated. Joseph and Katherina Marsicek Ouradnik moved to Pine City, MN but originally they lived in Slovan where they ran a tavern, store, and post office. John Marsicek's sister Anna married Anna Stika Blahnik's brother John Stika. They lived in Kewaunee and then moved to Green Bay

Commemorative Biographical Record, 1895 page 645; Joseph Ouradnik
COMMEMORATIVE BIOGRAPHICAL RECORD.JOSEPH OURADNIK, who for some forty years has been prominently connected with the mercantile and official interests of Casco township,
Kewaunee county, is a native of Bohemia, born September 28, 1843. He is a son of Frank and Annie Ouradnik, also natives of Bohemia, where the father was a farmer and grain buyer, and a prominent man in the locality in which he made his home. In 1857. accompanied by his family, he emigrated to America and took up his residence in Casco township, Ke-waunee Co. , Wis. , where he purchased a section of timber land which he at once began to clear and improve, carrying on agricultural pursuits the greater part of his life. He and his wife were members of the Catholic Church, and both lived to advanced age.The educational privileges which our subject received were those afforded by the common schools of his native land, in which he pursued his studies until twelve years of age. About that time, in 1855, he came with his brother-in-law to the United States, and with him located in Manitowoc, Wis. , but after a short time he removed to Casco township, Kewaunee county, where he was joined by his parents in the year 1857. Here he formed a partnership with his brother-in-law, John Stika, purchased land, and after clearing the. timber from the same began farming, becoming one of the first settlers in that locality. He came to this country a poor boy without any knowledge of the English language, but has steadily worked his way upward from a humble position to one of affluence, is now the owner of 125 acres of valuable land, the greater part under cultivation, and is numbered among the representative men of his township. He is also doing a profitable business as a merchant and saloon keeper in Slovan, and owns and operates a cheese factory, which also adds materially to his income.In 1860, Mr. Ouradnik was joined in wedlock to Miss Katherina Marsicek, who was born in Bohemia, October 31, 1845, and their union has been blessed with thirteen children, namely: Mary, Annie, Joseph, Lydia, Christina, Lewis, Frank, Rosa, Theresa, Frances, Agnes, Emma and Katie. In politics Mr. Ouradnik affiliates with the Democratic party, and has served as supervisor and chairman of the town board for many years. He has also long served as township treasurer, is still filling that position, and in 1886 was elected treasurer of Kewaunee county, serving for three terms of two years each. At this writing he is candidate for county sheriff. He has also held the office of school treasurer for sixteen years, and in these various positions has ever been found true and faithful, discharging his duties with credit to himself and satisfaction to his constituents. During President Hayes' administration he was appointed postmaster at Slovan, and is still filling that office. He is a member of the Catholic Church, and it was largely through his instrumentality that the Holy Trinity church of Slovan was erected; is also a member of the Catholic Knights of Wisconsin. Our subject is truly one of the most prominent men of his township, and well deserves representation in the history of his adopted county.
