Submitted by Bob BlahnikRichard Melvin Meister
(December 24, 1954 - January 23, 2007) Richard Dick Melvin Meister, 52, of Annapolis, Maryland, formerly of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, passed away Tuesday, January 23, 2007 at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, Maryland.
He was born December 24, 1954 in Algoma, Wisconsin, son of the Jacqueline Mary (Blahnik) Meister and the late James Howard Meister. Dick graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1972. During his tenure in the Air Force he was transferred to Germany as an Airborne Communications and Navigation Equipment Specialist. He received an Honorable Discharge from the Air Force after 6 years, but remained in Germany and worked for Ford Aerospace, specializing in simulation equipment. He then worked for Burroughs Corporation as a Senior Systems Field Engineer where he became involved in a new project called Advanced Personal Data System. Working independently for the majority of the project, Dick took the opportunity to travel throughout Europe, treasuring all he learned about various cultures and traditions. Subsequently, Dick began working for AT&T/Lucent Corporation as a Customer Support Manager/European Operations and in 1988 earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management. Out of his desire to help others (and because he loved skiing!) he also belonged to the elite Swiss Alps Medic Ski Patrol. In 1998, Dick moved back to the United States, where he remained with the Lucent Corporation until 2005. Most recently, he chose to work for EyakTek Technology in Reston, Virginia as a Program Manager. Dick was a quiet man, dedicated to his work, his home and his community. He was a perfectionist who used his skills to his advantage in his gardening, his home improvement and love of taking long walks with canine friend, Maggie. Survivors include his mother, Jacqueline Meister of Sturgeon Bay, WI; four brothers, Jerry of Sheridan, WY, Tom of Fort Morgan, CO, Mike (Dale) of Fairfax, VA and Bob (Jerrilyn) of California City, CA; two sisters, Kathy Meister of Jacksonport, WI and Patty (Brent) LaVigne of Sturgeon Bay, WI; nieces and nephews; special friend, Kathy Whittaker of Annapolis, MD; and his dog, Maggie. He was preceded in death by his father, and two nephews, Peter and Tim Meister. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 24, 2007 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sturgeon Bay. Friends may call at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at 10:30 a.m. Memorials may be made in his memory. Huehns Funeral Home of Sturgeon Bay, WI is in charge of arrangements.
