Fiala, 91, Kewaunee, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, Dec. 4, 2006.He was born Oct. 30, 1915, to Frank and Anna (Blahnik) Fiala, in Kewaunee. John was a graduate of Kewaunee High School and a proud Army Veteran of WWII.He served in Okinawa, East Hebrides and the Philippines. He was the clerk with the Army Infantry Band and played Clarinet. He was a member and past Commander of the VFW 3392. John was a member of the Holy Rosarie Catholic Church, and a proud member of the original men's choir. He was also a member of the Third Degree Knights of Columbus, Holy Rosarie Society, and the Catholic Order of Foresters.He was an Assessor of the town of Casco for many years. He retired from the Green Bay water department. On May 20, 1947, he married Ruby Kotek at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Portage, WI they lived a faith-filled life serving as an example to family and friends. Survivors include, wife Ruby of 59 years. He had six daughters, Jane (Tony Jr.) Lischka, Fran (Herb) Ullmann, Mary (Harry) Schroeder, Helen (Marc) Jackson, Rita (Tony) Smits, Diane (Dale) Haszel; six sons, John (Val), Jim (Chris), Tony (Glenda), Pete (Barb), Gary (Jody) and Ron; 40 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. He is further survived by four sisters and one brother-in-law, Mildren Halada, Lillian Hermans, Regina Treml, Edith and Jerome Dolski; five sisters in law and two brothers in law, Adele Fiala, Mary Fiala, Viva Kotek, Mary Lou Anderson, Anna Mae (Bill) Jax, Jack and Kathleen Voyles. Also numerous cousins, nieces and ne phews.He is preceded in death by a son, Jerome; two brothers, Frank and Mike; also six brothers in law, Frank Halada, Pete Hermans, Leo Treml, Elmer Kotek, Harlan Wampler and Richard Anderson. John lived a long and fulfilling life. His love for music, laughter, dancing and playing cards will always keep a smile in the hearts of everyone that had the privilege of knowing him. He was very outgoing and was able to Make friends where ever he went. John and Ruby spent several winters in Florida. They also traveled most of the states and were known as the "Galavanters". Even though he will be greatly missed by his wife and children, his passing is a celebration of eternal peace with the lord. Friends may call after 4 pm Wednesday at Buchanan Funeral Home, Kewaunee. VFW services will be held at 6:30 pm and a Parish wake service will be held at 7pm Wednesday at the funeral home. Visitation continues after 11am Thursday at Holy Rosary Church until the time of services. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am Thursday Dec. 7 at Holy Rosary Church, Kewaunee with Fr. William Swichtenberg Officiating. Burial will be with full military rites will be at the Holy Rosary Cemetery. The family would like to make a special thank-you to Dr. Zenner, the staff of Kewaunee Care Center, especially the nursing staff of the Birch Terrace Wing

ObituaryFiala, Ruby M.With tears of sadness, laughter and joy, we lost the cornerstone of our family on Friday, September 27, 2013. Ruby joins Johnny, her husband and her son Jerry. The former Ruby M. Kotek was born on July 12, 1926 to the late Bert and Gladys (Balliet) Kotek in Portage, WI.On May 20, 1947 she married John C. Fiala and he preceded her in death on December 4, 2006.She was member of Holy Rosary Church and the Rosary Society, V.F.W. Auxiliary. She enjoyed baking, leather craft, knitting, crocheting, quilting, dancing, card playing, fishing, and especially spending time with family and friends. Most of all she enjoyed travels with Johnnie as the "Galavanters" spending winters in Florida and summers up NorthSurvivors include six daughters and sons-in-law: Jane and Tony Lischka Jr., Kewaunee; Fran and Herb Ullmann, Appleton; Mary and Harry Schroeder, Brown Deer, WI; Helen and Marc Jackson, Kewaunee; Rita and Tony Smits, Green Bay; Diane and Dale Haszel, Kewaunee; six sons and five daughters-in-law: John F. and Valery A. Fiala, Shawano; James and Chris Fiala, Kaukauna; Tony and Glenda Fiala, Kewaunee; Peter and Barb Fiala, Kewaunee; Gary and Jody Fiala, New Franken; Ron Fiala and special friend Sara Larson, Green Bay; forty grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren; two sisters: Mary Lou Anderson, Madison; Anna Mae Jax, New Lisbon, WI; five sisters-in-law: Viva Kotek, Endavor; Mildred Halada, Green Bay; Lillian Hermans, Denmark; Mary Fiala, Green Bay; Edith (Jerome) Dolski, Kewaunee; one brother-in-law: Jack Voyles, Casco. She was preceded in death by a son: Jerry; a brother: Elmer Kotek.Friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 1 at Buchanan Funeral Home, Kewaunee. V.F.W Auxiliary services will be at 6:30 p.m. and a parish wake service will be held at 7:00 p.m. led by Dcn. Robert Pribek. Visitation will continue on Wednesday at Holy Rosary Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Dennis Drury officiating.
