In viewing your website trying to link your family line to mine, I did
find my grandfather listed on your page of Other Blahnik's not yet
Connected. My grandpa Franz (Frank) Blahnik is listed -"#14 below Franz Blahnik male born 1888 left Volduchy, Bohemia and
arrived at Ellis Island Feb 27, 1906. He traveled the Kaiser Wilhelm
der Grosse from Bremen, Germany and is listed as 18 years old. His
final destination is Pine City, Minnesota and his uncle James (Rock?).
He carried $11 and is listed on line 7 of the ship's manifest"His uncle in Pine City was James Polk. It does look like Rock, but my
mother said it is Polk. [see ellis island immigration record]We recently found some cousins in southern Minnesota and they have good
documentation of our line of Blahnik's. I would hope that we can
somehow figure out the connection between the Minnesota Blahnik's and
the Wisconsin Blahnik's. My mom doesn't think there is a link, but I
have a feeling that there is someplace along the line.My grandfather Frank's parents were Josef Blahnik (7-20-1858) and Marie
(Mary) Jisova. Josef was the son of Josef Blahnik (3-26-1831) and Anna
Krocova (2-10-1831). Josef's parents were Frantisek (no birth year
known) and Johana Saskova (no birth year). Frantisek is the son of
Matej Blahnik (no birth year) and Barbora Egermajrova (no birth year).I didn't do the genealogy but I do have the book that was done. I can
put you in touch with the family that put it together. Thanks,
Shelly Salmasa

Hi Lori I am the grandson of Frank Blahnik (1888-1953).
He was born in Volduchy Bohemia. We have done a lot of genealogy, and I would be happy to mail that info to you or bring it along to the reunion.

Subject: Blahnik Family HistoryHi Lori,My husband and I have done some history on my grandfather, James Blahnik, who immigrated to America in 1882 and settled near Austin, Minnesota. Later, in the 1920's, a cousin of my father immigrated and settled near Brook Park, Minnesota (just North of Minneapolis/St Paul). His name was Frank (Frantisek) Blahnik - an uncle to the Frantisek we met in Cheska. We have actually taken several trips to the Czech Republic and were able to meet my second cousin, Frantisek Blahnk (he died this past year). He still owned the home my grandfather was born in. The home was used as an overnight waystop for freighters traveling between Praha and Plzen and has been in the family for centuries. He had transferred the ownership to his son, George, who I believe is a police officer. We have also utilized a research company, Pathfinders, located in Prague to help us find additional information. My grandfather came from the village of Volduchy, just east of Plzen. My husband located your webpage and said he thought I would be interested. It sounds to me like you have done a lot work to try to locate anyone with the Blahnik name. We have been renovating an old farmhouse, so have not had much time lately for our hobbies. When we discover clues to our past, we get excited. I would be willing to share our information, to see if and I believe actually how we are related to other Blahniks, especially those around the Green Bay area. I can't say for sure if we will be able to attend the Blahnik reunion, but certainly would like to. Thank you for all of your hard work.Cathy (Blahnik) Bly

from Cathy Bly 8/9/11No, Rudolf never immigrated. He stayed on the farm near Volduchy. Rudolf's son was Frantisek (sp). We were able to meet Frantisek several times and visit the family farm. Sadly, Frantisek passed away last year. The family farm was passed from ? to Joseph to Joseph to Rudolf to Franisek to his son, Jiri. Rudolf was an interesting individual. He made a living taking photos which was good business during the American occupancy after WWII. The farm house has an attic full of old glass negatives that Rudolf had taken. They probably should be a museum. He also "raised" dogs but was swindled by a partner. Some of his exploits were included in one of the Good Soldier Sevic series of books. Mike Johnson, who has confirmed he is coming to the reunion, is a nephew to Frank, who immigrated to the Pine City, MN area. His mother was Frances Blahnik, and per family reports when she married her husband, they called him the Swede! A story Frantisek shared, was he asked his US cousins to send him some army clothing. Somehow in the correspondence mix-up, Frances kept sending Frantisek long sleeve white shirts, which Frantisek didn't know what to do with. Frantisek served in the military, and shared that commercial flights coming into Prague, would have been surprised to know that they were in the missile sights of the military, as they didn't have much else to practice on. We are going to try to make the reunion, but aren't going to officially decide until early next week. Jack and I have been renovating my mother's old farm house, and intend to move in before winter. Jack has been doing the majority of the work, but when we can only work on weekends, getting projects complete takes longer. This upcoming weekend, we are planning a 3 day weekend, so hope all goes well.
