Eugene (Gardo) Aulik, 79, Kewaunee, died Saturday, June 5, 2010, at the Kewaunee Care Center. He was born June 26, 1930, in Kewaunee, to the late John and Agnes (Sevcik) Aulik. He graduated from Holy Rosary School and Kewaunee High School.Gardo was a member of Holy Rosary Parish all of his life. He served his country as a Marine from November 1951 until November 1953 during the Korean War. He belonged to the disabled Vets and American Legion Post 29 of Kewaunee. He worked in Michigan for Luedtke Engineering before joining the Marines. He worked for Hamachek Machine Co. for ten years. He then worked for the U.S. Post Office, retiring in 1990 after 32 years of service. He joined the Kewaunee Fire Department in 1956, he was appointed Captain in July 1959 and retired Jan.1, 1985. He was a Kewaunee City Councilman for several years.
He married Lorraine Swintkoske Aug. 7, 1957, at Holy Rosary Church in Kewaunee.
Survivors include his wife, Lorraine; four children, Marguerite Aulik, Louisville, Ky.; Mark (Linda) Aulik, Kewaunee; Michael (friend, Michelle) Aulik, Green Bay; Patrick Aulik, Aspen, Colo.; five grandchildren, Scott, Amy, Alex, Ella and Edjer; one sister and brother-in-law, Gladys and Melvin Gallenberger, Oostburg, Wis.; two sisters-in-law, Germaine Aulik, Green Bay; and Sr. Madonna Swintkoske, Green Bay. He was preceded in death by one brother, John Aulik and a sister, Ruth (Earl) Opicka.
Friends may call after 4 p.m. Thursday, June 10, at Buchanan Funeral Home, Kewaunee. American Legion services will be held at 6:30 p.m. and a parish wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Burial with full military rites will take place on Friday at 10:30 a.m. in Holy Rosary Cemetery. Due to the illness and hospitalization of Lorraine, a Memorial Mass will be announced and held at a later date.
