Obituary from Bob BlahnikCiche, DorisDoris Ann Ciche, 86, Kewaunee, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 11, 2011, at Aurora Hospital with her family at her side.She was born July 30, 1925, in Slovan, Wis., to Albert and Alvina (Bitzan) Worachek. Doris graduated from Casco High School in 1942 and Door-Kewanee Normal School in 1944. After becoming a teacher she taught grade school at Pleasant Hill (Rankin), Slovan and Alaska.Doris married John Ciche Jr. on Aug. 30, 1950, at Casco, Wis. Their marriage was blessed with three daughters and a son. Together they farmed in West Kewaunee until 1971, when John passed away. Doris and her children then moved to Kewaunee; she worked at the State Bank of Kewaunee for 14 years and later was a substitute teacher in area schools.As a member of St. Therese Parish (St. Hedwig's) she served on the Building and Finance Committee and was a church Trustee. She has been an active member of the Rosary Society, Catholic Order of Foresters, Catholic Knights Branch #32, and Daughters of Isabella. She was also active in many other local organizations.Doris was a wonderful mother who always put her children first. She was incredibly proud of her four children, six grandchildren and their many accomplishments. Doris cherished all family gatherings and always looked forward to spending time with her family. She loved watching her grandchildren mature and play sports. She was also an avid Packer and Brewer fan. She will be truly missed by her loving children and their spouses: Darlene Wotachek, Manitowoc; Marilyn (Tom) Janowski, Green Bay; Dennis (Beth) Ciche, Franklin, Wis.; and Anne (Dean) Renard also of Green Bay. She is survived by six grandchildren; Jonathan, Jared and Jeff Ciche of Franklin, and Karley, Kendall and Austin Renard of Green Bay. Additionally she is survived by a very special sister, Betty Steege, Green Bay, two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Ciche, Manitowoc, Lila Ciche, Luxemburg, and 12 loving nieces and nephews. Doris was godmother to Robin Defnet, Holly Zimmerman, and the late John Bosdech. Preceding her in death were her parents, Alvina and Albert Worachek, infant siblings, brothers and sisters in law, Alvin and Edward Ciche, Dr. Gilbert and Eleanore Blahnik, and Mary Ciche.Doris enjoyed playing cards with her friends, reading, cooking, crocheting, playing bingo, listening to polka music and traveling. She traveled to Hawaii, Europe, and Alaska, and other destinations; the trip to the Holy Land was her favorite.She was cared for in her children's homes for a year and a half followed by a short stay at the Bornemann Nursing Home after her recent surgery. The family would like to acknowledge Dr. Mihailescu, the nurses and staff at Aurora Hospital, and Bornemanns for their extraordinary attention and heartfelt loving care provided to Doris. A special thank you is also extended to Fr. Dennis Drury, Deacon Bob Pribek, and family and friends for their visits with Doris during her illness the last several months.Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 14th, at the Buchanan Funeral Home in Kewaunee. The prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Visitation continues on Monday from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home. The Mass of the Assumption of Mary with Christian burial will be at 2 p.m. at St. Hedwigs in East Krok. A lunch will follow the burial in the church cemetery.
