Deceased Name: Mary Blahnik, 86
Funeral Mass for Mary Blahnik will be 11 a.m. July 21 at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Spring Valley, Minn., with Fr. Steven Peterson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery following the service.
Mary, 86, Spring Valley, died Sunday morning at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn. She was born Mary Barbara Snyder on April 28, 1919, to Peter and Julia Agnes (Guiney) Snyder in Austin, Minn., where she attended school and graduated valedictorian in 1936 from St. Augustine High School (Pacelli).
Mary attended Teacher's Normal School and taught in two separate country schools in the Austin area, before she was united in marriage to Louis Blahnik on June 15, 1939, at Queen of Angels Church in Austin.
After getting married, they farmed in the Austin area until 1962, when they moved to a farm north of Spring Valley and continued to farm there until the late 1970s.
Mary is survived by her sons Jim (Marion) Blahnik of Dover, Minn., Joe Blahnik, Brownsville, Minn., Don (Brenda) Blahnik, Red Wing, Minn., Fred (Carla) Blahnik, Racine, Minn.; daughters Mary (Kenneth) Haggerty, Goodhue, Minn., Carolyn Greeley, Wabasha, Minn., Elizabeth (Jerry) Pestka, Rochester, Minn., Cathy (Jack) Bly, LaCresent, Minn., Bonnie Sawyer, Rochester, Minn., Barb (Marty) Smalley, Coeur d'Alene; daughter-in-law Julie Blahnik, St. Charles; 50 grandchildren, six step-grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; brothers Paul (Irene) Snyder, Gene (Adeline) Snyder, both of Grand Meadow; sisters Catherine Blahnik, Spring Valley, Angie (Jerry) Viktora, Austin, Minn., Sister Ruth Snyder, Peru, South America, and Mariah Snyder, Lauderdale, Minn.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband Louis in 1969, sons Francis and Robert, grandchildren Tom, Nicholas, Douglas and Brittany, and brothers Joe and John.
