September 9, 2010
Grace Doris (Kulhanek) Blahnik, 90, Osseo, left this earth on the day of her brother's birthday, Monday, Sept. 6, 2010, at Luther Midelfort Oakridge in Osseo, with her loving family and her Pastor at her side.
Grace was born March 30, 1920, in Oconto Falls, Wis. Her parents are the late James and Ida (Radue) Kulhanek. They moved to the Denmark area around 1934.
Grace married Joseph Francis Blahnik on Sept. 25, 1940, at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Eaton, Wis. He preceded her in death on Dec. 16, 1977.
Together Joseph and Grace farmed on the Blahnik family farm in the Denmark area until 1960, when they moved to the Town of Bellevue near Green Bay.
Grace worked at Beverly Gardens in Denmark for many years from around 1951 until 1990, primarily as a cook, for Adeline Cherney, Leo and Arlene Heim and Harold and Florence Rentmeester. Her friends gave her the nickname of "Thunder" as she was always making noise in the kitchen with pots and pans while cooking. She also worked at Cliff and Ceil's in Green Bay from 1960 until 1992 as a bartender.
In January of 1993, she moved to Osseo, to live with her daughter and son-in-law. Then on Nov. 22, 2005, she moved to Luther Midelfort Oakridge in Osseo, where she currently resided.
Grace liked to travel and enjoyed her trips up north during deer hunting season and to Oconto Falls to visit relatives so many years ago. Later on she was able to go to Las Vegas, Hawaii and Nebraska with friends on trips with Polka bands. After moving to Osseo, she and her dear friend, Mae took several bus trips to local and regional events, Door County, Branson, Mo., and to Eau Claire just to shop a little and be together. She enjoyed spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. Grace was a longtime member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Henrysville, Wis. and was currently a member of South Beef River Lutheran Church in Osseo.
Grace was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph; mother and father-in-law, John and Anna (Halada) Blahnik; brothers, and sisters-in-law, Frank Blahnik, Roger Andrastek, Esther Kulhanek, Gertrude Blahnik, Lydia Blahnik, John Blahnik, Esther Kulhanek; grandson Jason Blahnik; and very special friends, Ceil Loritz, Emily Delforge and Grace Kolarik.
