2/4/2014
Hi Lori,I was so lucky to have known Don. Unfortunately it was right about the time he was diagnosed with Parkinsons. When we first met and were comparing notes, it was odd to see that he had photo albums with the same photos that I had. I worked with him on this project and he did get to see the fruit of his labors before he diedAbout my branch, particularly my g-grandfather Jacob, you see that my dad James Peter (1922-1984) was orphaned at a young age. My g-grandmother, Antonia (Blazek) for what ever reason was not fond of my grandfather James A. Bougher. I think that she was very protective of her daughters particularly since she lost her one daughter Agnes so young. Any way she and Uncle Louie raised my dad. The story in the family was that Jacob went out one day for cigarettes and never returned. I suspect now that Uncle Louie knew that he was living with his Aunt Carrie in Milwaukee but it was never talked about. I have the telegram that was sent to the family when Jacob died. Don was the one that told me about Jacob being injured while working in the mines and going to live with Aunt Carrie where he helped around their butcher shop. They were still married in 1920 & 1930 but considered himself as single. There certainly wasn't much exchange of family information on this side of the family. Grandma Blanket as we called her didn't share any family info.

From Blahnik History by Donald Blahnik:
Notes for JAMES PETER BOUGHER:
Jimmy was orphaned at a young age. He was a bright boy and easily bored at school. He used to sneak out of school down the fire escape and go off to the movies. They ended up having him skip a grade in elementary school. Even before his father died, he went to live with his great grandmother Antonia Blahnik (Jimmy's children nicknamed her "Grandma Blanket" ) and his Uncle Louie. Jimmy was the apple of their eye. He would ask grandma for a dime for the movies then he would go to the barber shop and ask Uncle Louie for a dime for the movies then he would sneak in and spend the money on candy.
He worked for the same company for 40 years until he went on medical disability. He liked to travel and watch movies. He also liked to tinker with small electrical appliances. He was a speed typist on the old manual typewriter.
