From the book Commemorative Biographical record of the Counties of Brown, Kewaunee and Door, Wisconsin 1895 page 704
Jacob Blahnik, one of the successful self-made farmers and large landowners of Ahnapee Township, Kewaunee county, was born August 1838, in Bohemia, son of George Blahnik, a native of the same country.
George Blahnik was reared on a farm when a young man married Katharine Blaha, also a Bohemian by birth, who bore him six children, as follows: Mathias, of Casco, Kewaunee Co, WI; Jacob, whose name opens this sketch; and George, Joseph, John, and Anton, of Ahnappe twonship, Kewaunee Co, WI. All born in Bohemia except Anton. In 1855 the father brought his family to the United States, and coming directly to Wisconsin, purchased eighty acres of timeber land in Ahnapee township, Kewaunee Co on which he located, immeditely commencing the clearing of the place for farming. He was the third settler in that part of Ahnapee, which at the earl day was almost a perfect wilderness, and passed through many hardships incident to the life of a pioneer in such a region. Later he purchased 240 acres more of land, all of which he improved and equipped with good buildings, acquiring a comfortable share of this world's goods. His death took place in 1893, that of his wife in 1891. They were members of the Catholic Church.Jacob Blahnik, our subject, was educated in his native tongue, and was seventeen years of age when he came with his parents to the United States. When nineteen years old he was united in marriage with Katharine Gatina [Gettinger], also a native of Bohemia, of German Descent born in 1844. She is the mother of fourteen children, four of whom are deceased, the living being Joseph (of Menomonee), Katharine (now Mrs. William McCory [McCurry] of Chicago), Barbara (of Chicago), Annie, Mary, Lena, Amelia, Jacob, George and Michael. Mr. Blahnik was reared to farming pursuits, and after his marriage purchased forty acres of land, locating upon which he engaged in general agriculture. He subsequently purchased more land, now owning 215 acres, well improved with good buildings, fences, etc., and he ranks among the substantial well-to-do farmers of his township. The fine property he now owns has been accumulated by his own unceasing inductry and good business management, qualities which he possesses to an unusual degree. Mr. Blahnik is a member of the Democratic party in political affiliation, and has filled several local offices of trust. He and his family are members of the Catholic Church of Ahnapee, and he is a member of the Catholic Knights of Wisconsin.

January 28, 1854 is not his accurate birthdate per records in Plzen, Czech
------------------------------
Joseph apparently did use 1854 as his birth year.=
Per 1900 census Joseph was able to read, write and speak English. He owned a farm though it was mortgaged and he was listed as a farmer.

----------
Anton Blahnik of Ahnapee Town Received Injuries Monday which soon after resulted in this death.
-------------
While bringing a load of timber to this city last Monday from the Town of Ahnapee, Anton Blahnik received injuries which soon after resulted in his death. While driving along the road, one wheel of the wagon struck a stone, causing the timbers, upon which he was sitting, to tip up, throwing him to the ground and injuring him internally. A couple of farmers coming along soon after found him lying in the road in an unconscious condition and took him to the home of his son, Jos. A. Blahnik, about a quarter of a mile distance, and hastily summoned medical assistance, and everything possible was done for the suffereing man, but without Avail. He lingered along until Wednesday, expiring at two o'clock P.M.Anton was a resident of the town of Ahnapee, where he was born 48 years ago, and was a son of the late George Blahnik, who was one of the earliest settlers here.Deceased leaves a wife, and eight children, 6 sons and two daughters, together with five brothers, to mourn his untimely death. THe bereaved family have the sympathy of the entire community in this, the time of their deep affliction. The funeral will take place at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Saturday morning, Rev. Kraemer officiating. Interment in the Catholic Cemetery.

________
Passed Away at Home In This City Nine O'clock Saturday Evening Last
- Ill for a Year
___________The death of Mrs. Jos. Blahnik of this city occurred Saturday evening of last week at nine o'clock, at her home in this city on Fourth street. She had been ill for some time and in spite of all that could be done for her her condition grew weaker from day to day.
Mrs. Jos. Blahnik, nee Selner, was born in Klanc, Bohemia, in the year 1858. In the year 1882 she came to this country and took up her home with her brother, Addam Selner, iin the town of Montpelier. A year later she was married to Jos. Blahnik and they settled on a farm in the town of Ahnapee. The couple continued active farm work until aout three years ago when they retired and moved to this city, which has been their home since.
Besides her husband, deceased is survived by five daughters, viz: Mrs. John Bangor, of Green Bay; Mrs. Joseph Tauschek of Norway, Mich.; and the Misses Frannie, Mollie and Annia, and three sons, Joseph of Aladka, Anton of Kewaunee and Adolph, whose present whereabouts are not known.
The funeral was held Tuesday morning from the house of Rev. Wm, Kraemer officiating, and interment was made in the Catholic cemetery. Members of the K. of C. acted as pall bearers, Mr. Blahnik being a member of that organization.

1- Anna (Selnar) Blahnik (October 28, 1858-October 26, 1918)
2-Joseph Blahnik (March 19, 1850-September 24, 1920)
3-Theresia Blahnik (October 07, 1898-March 14, 1917)
4-Anna Blahnik (September 09, 1886-October 21, 1886)
5-Matilda Blahnik (March 13, 1891-December 14, 1914)
==================. It says that Anna (Selnar) Blahnik who died in 1918 was survived by 5 daughters but I think those are the ones from Joseph's 1st wife. Anna and Joseph had 10 children, 6 were daughters. The family had a number of people die from TB, including Anna Selnar-Blahnik according to her death certificate.
Her biological Daughters:
Anna born and died in 1886
Rosalia 1887-1912 (TB)
Matilda (Tillie) 1891-1914 (phitisis on death certificate but that is the Greek term for TB)
Emily 1894-1914 (Mrs. Frank Slavik) - cause of death unknown
Anna 1895-1922 -died from TB
Theresia 1898-1917 - I'm not sure cause of death-probably TBOnly her daughter Anna Blahnik was still alive when Anna Selnar Blahnik died in 1918. The obituary says her daughter Anna Blahnik was not married. As an aside, the Cheese Maker Anton Blahnik (who lived to more than 100 years) was very lucky or had great genes. He was one of the few family members who did not get TB and die. His brother Wenzel (1889-1907) also died from TB. His brother Leo died quite young (1896-1912) but he died from falling off a wagon. So this poor family with 10 natural children had
2 die within a month of being born
5 die from TB (plus the mother Anna Selnar- and her husband Joseph died 2 years later from Bronchiatosis? TB?)
1 married but still died before her parents and only one year after marriage - cause unknown
1 fell from a wagon and died before the parents
That seems to make Anton James Blahnik 1885-1989, the Cheesemaker and husband of Bozena (Bessie) Ouradnik the only survivor of this biological family! And lived to 104!
