Submitted by Bob BlahnikMark James Tess, Kewaunee, passed from his family's loving arms to Jesus' loving arms on April 29, 2011.
Mark battled glucaganoma cancer for over ten years.
He was born to Burt and Donna (Pechman) Tess on Aug. 8, 1953.
He graduated from Kewaunee High School, Class of 1971, and earned his living in the Kewaunee area.
He married Janet Holub on April 24, 1976, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Kewaunee.
They were blessed with one daughter, Mariah, in 1988.
Mark was glad in knowing that he would have eternal life with his Savior in Heaven one day. He felt so blessed and it was hard to imagine what he was capable of doing with his life without help from above.
Mark was a generous man and enjoyed sharing God's many blessings to him by donating to his favorite charities, Immanuel Lutheran Church, WELS missions, St. Jude Children's Hospital, the Bay Area Humane Society and the Special Olympics.
He was especially glad that his wife stayed by his side during his battle and took him to doctors, hospitals and clinics.
Mark also enjoyed attending car shows, especially with his daughter. They entered their own cars for several years and he would so enjoy when Mariah would place.
He played organized sports, some crossing four decades. He played almost any kind of baseball or softball. He coached Legion ball and grade school softball. He was a member of Kewaunee Dartball League for 24 years. He liked golf almost as much as softball. He liked the adrenaline rush he got from hard work, sports, riding his Venture Royale motorcycle, good golf shots and working on his uncle's farm.
He enjoyed traveling, Florida being his favorite stop. Mark really enjoyed working at church cutting grass, painting and doing fix-up jobs there, devoting even more of his time after his retirement.
He is survived by his wife, Janet, his daughter, Mariah, and his dog, Caine, Kewaunee; mother, Donna Tess, Kewaunee; sister and brother-in-law, Mona and Terry Cox, Brillion; mother-in-law, Ruth Holub, Mishicot; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Julie Gruendemann, Waupaca; Andy Holub, Garden, Mich.; Roger and Debbie Holub, Green Bay; aunt and uncle, Dorothy and Harlan Tess, Kewaunee; nieces and nephews, Megan, Alison and Graem Cox, Brillion; Jill and Joel Johnson, Eli Gruendemann, Waupaca; Tamara Stockman, Crystal Vail, Jamie Longsine, Green Bay; Renee Fischer, Wisconsin Rapids; Michele Wiegerling, Grafton; Angie Busch, Amy Klein, Manitowoc; Laura Holub, Green Bay; many cousins, and special friends, Paul and Brenda Nimmer, Kewaunee.
He was preceeded in death by his father, Burton Tess; grandparents, Lillian and Herman Pechman, Elsie and Reinhold Tess; his father-in-law, Emmanuel (Manny) Holub; sister-in-law, Norma Holub; brother-in-law, Jim Gruendemann; and the family cat of 15 years, Max, who helped Mark throughout his illness.
Visitation will be held at Buchanan Funeral Home in Kewaunee, Wis., on Sunday, May 1, from 4 to 8 p.m.
Visitation will continue at Immanuel Lutheran Church from 10 to 11 a.m. on May 2, with the funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. with Pastor Michael Sullivan officiating. Mark's burial will be at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Carlton, Wis.
