Brother of Thomas and Frank Hlinak of this city died Saturday, Funeral was held Monday. Death occurs just six months after that of his wife.John Hlinak, a resident of this city for the past 5 or 6 years, and of the county since 1875, passed away Saturday morning at 7:30 o'clock. Mr. Hlinak had been in failing health for the past two years. Two weeks ago he had an operation for strangulated hernia, from which he recovered, but other complications developed and he died of kidney trouble and a weak heart just 6 months to the day after his wife's death.Deceased was born in Bohemia on June 11,, 1856. In 1875, when he was 19 years of age, his parents left their native land and with the family came to the United States and settled in West Kewaunee near Dikeman's Mill. Young John immediately began to work in the woods and in his spare time was employed at the mason trade. In 1879 he was united in marrage to Miss Ann Novak of Pierce, and they went to live in the town of Montpelier on a tract of timber land that the young groom had purchased a year or two before. On this homestead the family lived for thirty odd years or until they removed to this city, and it was there their six children, four sons and two daughters, were born.Durning his residence in the city, Mr. Hlinak was employed by the Kewaunee Manufacturing Co. until failing health forced him to retire. He was a member of the Catholic Knights and of the American Catholic Union Branch 32, known at the Knights of St. George, members of boths societies attended the funeral in a body.The funeral took place Monday forenoon at 9 o'clock from the late home. The remains were taken to St. John's Catholic Church in Krok where High Mass was celebrated by Rev. Koutnik assisted by Rev. Kubale. Interment was made in the church cemetery there. Mr. Hlinak was a devout Catholic, and a member of St. John's congregation ever since he came to America.Surviving him are his six childrem Joseph on the old homestead, Montpelier, Frank also of Montpelier, Charles of Carlton and Edward, the yougnest, residing at St. Louis, Mo., and Mrs. Micheal Kulhanek and Mrs. John DeBoth both of Green Bay, besides two brothere, Thomas and Frank of this city, and three sisters, Mrs. Josephine Hanna of this city, Mrs. William Kleiman of Wast Kewaunee and Mrs. Anna Baldwin, residing in Montana.Mr. Hlinak was a quiet, industrious man, a kind husband and father, a devout christian, and a good citizen. Obiturary from the Kewaunee Enterprise Friday, November 4, 1887The wife of Mr. Hohn Hlinak, a few years ago a resident of this city, but now of West Kewaunee, died at her home in that town yesterday morning. Obiturary from the Kewaunee Enterprise Friday, February 5, 1904Old Settler Dead, John Hlinak Dies after Illness of Two YearsJohn Hlinak, a pioneer settler of Kewaunee county and father of Thomas and Frank Hlinak of this city, died at the home of the latter at an early hour Wednesday evening. For the past two years deceased has been a sufferer from asthma and it was this malady that finally resulted in his death.He, John Hlinak was born in Bohemia on May 30, 1830. In 1874 he came to this country with his family and located in the town of West Kewaunee, where he purchased a farm. This he conducted until about four years ago, when he came to this city where he has since made his home.In life he was an active, hard working man. He made many friends and retained them in his large circle of acquaintances was always found honest and upright. His family ties were always pleasant. Six children survive him, Thomas and Frank of this city, John, Mrs. Joseph Hanna and Mrs. William Kleiman of West Kewaunee, and Mrs. William Baldwin of Michigan.The funeral was held this morning, the remains being taken to Krol, where they were interred in the Catholic cemetery.
