Hello,
I received your contact from the Blahnik family web page http://blahnik.accessgenealogy.com/Index.htm Thank you for this wonderful resource!My name is Corlice Blahnik Brooke. I was born (1946) and raised in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. My great-grandparents and grandparents also lived in Cedar Rapids. We are traveling to the Czech Republic in May, 2013 and hope to visit some villages of my heritage. I have been researching Klatovy and Domazlice as they look the most likely from the information I have below and are in the Chodsko area.From the Blahnik web page I found my family under descendants of George Blahnik who live in Iowa: http://blahnik.accessgenealogy.com/iowa_blahniks.htm#Descendants%20of%20Joseph%20Blahnik Also, I notice the information on this page regarding my father's death place is incorrect. 4 Robert L. Blahnik b: November 29, 1916 in Linn, IA d: February 21, 2002 in Lake Co, IN He died in Ames, IA and is buried in Cedar Rapids, IA. I would be happy to provide further lineage information for our family.The following is information I have regarding my great grandparents from an ancestry paper I did in high school:Paternal Great Grandparents:
Joseph Blahnik - Born May 14, 1863 in Mlynci, Klatovy, Bohemia. He started for America in 1883 to avoid conscription into the Austrian army. This is his gravestone in the
Czech cemetery in Cedar Rapids: http://iowagravestones.org/gs_view.php?id=176561 Mary Kolarik Blahnik - Born 1865 in Pusperku, Klatovy, Bohemia. She also came to America in 1883 with her family. She married Joseph Blahnik around 1886 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They had three daughters and three sons, on of whom was my grandfather, Lumir Blahnik.
http://iowagravestones.org/gs_view.php?id=176562 I would appreciate any information you may have or help you could give me about our upcoming May visit to the Czech Republic. I now am thinking that we may stay in Domazlice and search the surrounding areas. Thank you!

Hi Lori,
I have been having a wonderful time planning our May trip to the Czech Republic and researching the Blahnik information. It is overwhelming and I am so grateful you have done all this work! The chart below looks good and thank you for the great additions! I would add the following (in bold) to the chart below and am also including some anecdotal info told to me by my grandmother: Joseph Blahnik died in Cedar Rapids, Linn Co. (We knew him as Jededa. On October 21, 1883, he started for America alone. His main reason for coming was to avoid being taken into the Austrian army. He traveled at night and hid during the day. When he arrived in America, he lived on the east coast for 3 years and in 1886, came to Cedar Rapids after he had learned the tailor trade. There he met Mary Kolarik, whom he had known in Bohemia. That same year they were married.) Mary Kolarik Blahnik also died in Cedar Rapids, Linn Co, IA. (We knew her as Babi. In 1883 she journeyed with her family to America. She came directly to Linn County, IA. When Joseph Blahnik came to Iowa. she had known him before in Bohemia and they were married. They had 3 daughters and 3 sons, one of whom is my grandfather, Lumir. ) Robert Lumir Blahnik, (my father) was born in Cedar Rapids, Linn Co. He died in Ames, Story Co, IA. (He graduated from Iowa State University in 1939 with a degree in civil engineering. He was also captain of the Iowa State basketball team. He married Jeanne Verne from Moorhead, MN in 1941 who had graduated with a degree from Iowa State in Home Economics in 1939. He then served in the US Army - Red Bull 34th Division - in WWII - England, Africa and Italy until 1945. After the war he returned to settle in Cedar Rapids and work for the Blahnik Construction Company that my grandfather, Lumir, founded. He and mom had me in 1946 and my brother, Robert Paul Blahnik in 1950.) Emil Stepanek died in Linn Co, IA but I'm not sure of the year. (His mother was German. At the age of 16 in 1884, he came to America with his family. On the eastern coast he was a tailor until he heard of the Bohemian settlement in Linn Co. Iowa and the better opportunities. When he moved to Iowa he took up farming and married Elizabeth Serovy) Alice Stepanek (my grandmother) died in Cedar Rapids, Linn Co. She was one of 8 children. My records show that Elizabeth Serovy was born in Linn Co, IA and died there too, but I don't have the date. I don't know if you are interested in adding my aunt's history. My dad (Robert) had one sister: Bernice Blahnik Stoltz. She was born in Cedar Rapids, Linn Co, IA in 1914. She died in Anamosa, IA in 2012. Her daughters and granddaughter are very interested in this history and would be happy to add information, if appropriate. Also, I can add my brother's information, my mom's and our children and grandchildren, if appropriate. Please let me know. I am copying my nieces as they may be interested in this information.Thank you again,
Corly Blahnik Brooke=======

Remembering Pearl Harbor
Bob Garrett, Archives of Michigan]...Ted Blahnik of Coloma also experienced the attack firsthand. He had been aboard the ship Helena. We thought we were hearing bees, he remembered. Later on, when we cleaned up our gunmount area, we discovered it was actually bullets that we heard. He also recalled post-attack conditions: One of the most heartrending things that I witnessed was after the water was out of the Helena. The fellows went into the dry dock area, up to the gaping hole that the torpedo made, and took the bodies out from the area in which the torpedo hit.

There are a lot of Mary Blahniks and Mary Ann Blahniks all over the place!! However my side did originate in Wisconsin. I have researched as far as I can and have found very little. I have seen the website you mentioned in your note. I still can't find my grandparents among them. My grandfather died long before I was born. His is a sad story. For as long as I can remember the story was that grandpa was shot on a porch....of either his house or a tavern. My sister and I launched a search as to why he was shot. Murder? An accident? But, alas no. Sorry to report, we found an old newspaper clipping that said he had a terminal illness and in a moment of despair shot himself...His name was Francis. There are a whole bunch of Francis' in the family as well. My grandmothers name was Albina Yunger. I can't find anything on her either. So, the search ground to a halt.Mary's family was located in the database. Last name Albina/Alvina Junger or Yunger. Added more names courtesy of Mary BlahnikMy grandparents were born in bohemia. Grandma's maiden name was Younger first name Albina. Grandpa was Francis Blahnik and was shot and killed on an Indian Res. in WI. Any info. is welcomed.
Mary Ann Blahnik, Daughter of Frank. ( Not true.)
