Joel Blahnik May 2013
This past Sunday, Dr. Tyler Hubbard, D. D. S., from Sturgeon Bay, WI. (who is one of my son's best friends and who also is my dentist) is "wearing a BLAHNIK UNIVERSITY cap" and he is wearing it to his office tomorrow.Why---because of his son, in 2nd grade went on-line today during the 4 hour "Blahnik family" ceremony and celebration of my grandson, Jackson Blahnik's CONFIRMATION celebration with Pastor Mike Brecke and I did a little brass music, and we all had time to "fool around". From the 1950's era I recalled that I knew that this Hubbard Sister Bay family going back into the middle part of the 19th century was tied in with a "Woracek" hotel located where Hub's Pier is, presently located, etc. etc. An whole hour could be spent here on this topic. This dentist's father was an oral surgeon out of Green Bay and we went to high school together and our fathers taught together at Green Bay East H.S. as well in the 1930's in Door County schools. We are connected through the love of of water and oral surgeon Ron Hubbard and I were on the Green Bay East BB team and now a generation later both my son Jon and Tyler Hubbard have played in adult basketball leagues here and coached little teams.OK--Hubbards are related to Blahniks (I think the Algoma branch) back through the family history of the Woracek family. There was a Fran Woracek who came to Wisconsin in 1848 (very, very early) from the village of Nystedo (spelling--). (It could be Nyrsko!!) His son Albert Woracek was born also in Hlinsko (Ceske Budovice area) and then set up in Sister Bay the old Woracek hotel which is about 1 mile north of the village and now is known at Hub's Motel & Pier. Half of that hotel burned, in the 1940's, but 1/2 of it still remains. I worked on that property in Junior high school during the summers. That Woracek family married into the Bunda family who lived also here in Sister Bay and were important merchants. Also in this blood line of Woracek there was a Strika family from Tankov (w) and also a Koudelka family from Kralovice. Then going back into a generation there were a whole bunch of Blahniks that married into the Woraceks. or vice versa!!!!!!Lori----have you documents that can tie us back that far---Woracek and Blahniks?
