Jon P. Blahnik is a descendent of Wencel and Anna.  He contacted Joel Blahnik and Michael Cwach to research the family of origin for Wenzel in the Czech Republic.  Michael did basic research and connected Jon with genealogist,  Tony Knodrys  in Czech.  He commissioned Tony to search records for his family and was able to track two generations back from Wenzel to Nova Ves # 5  just north of Praha. Jon has paid for this research and we are grateful he is sharing it for all Blahniks.

Schroeder, Robert E.

 Robert E. Schroeder, age 74, Kewaunee, died Sunday, March 10, 2002, at Bellin Memorial Hospital. He was born June 22, 1927, in Kewaunee to the late Ernest and Julia (Blahnik) Schroeder. On Sept. 3, 1976, he married Clara Suchocki Johnson. Robert was a lifetime member of Holy Rosary Parish, lifetime member of V.F.W. Post 3392 and the D.A.V. Robert was employed by leyse Aluminum Co. and General Houseware of Kewaunee for over 30 years, retiring in 1986. He served in the U.S. Navy for 12 years and was a veteran of the Korean War.

 

 Survivors include his wife, Clara; two stepchildren, Kathy (Dayid); Augustine, Manawa; John (Kristin) Johnson, Waupaca; seven grandchildren, Heather (Chris) Arndt, Little Chute; Tla and David Augustine, Manawa; Joel and Jill Johnson, Waupaca; Katelyn and Megan, Waupaca; two sisters, Gladys (Dan) Johanek, Tisch Mills; Grace Hanson, Belvidere, III.; one half brother, Tony (Marie) Kalcik, Kewaunee; one stepsister, Joanne Pekarek, Mishicot; one aunt, Lillian Swagel, Kewaunee; nieces, nephews and cousins.

 

He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Danielle Augustine; his brother, Wallace Schroeder; his stepfather, Anton Kalcik; and his stepsister, Mildred. .

 

Friends may call after 4 p.m. Wednesday and until 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Buchanan Funeral Home, Kewaunee  Veterans services at 7 p.m. and parish wake service at 8 p.m. Funeral 11 a.m. Thursday, March 14 at Holy Rosary Church with the Rev. Daniel Dewane officiating. Burial in the Parish Cemetery with full military rights.

Swagel, Lillian M.

Lillian M. Swagel, 98, Kewaunee died Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at Linden Manor in Kewaunee. She was born Oct. 20, 1911 in the Town of Carlton to the late Wenzel and Mary (Younger) Blahnik.

She married George F. Swagel June 24, 1930 and he preceded her in death March 10, 1977. She and her husband farmed in West Kewaunee all of their lives until retiring.

Lillian was member of St. John Church at Krok and now Holy Rosary Church in Kewaunee. She was a member of St. John's Rosary Society, the Kewaunee Senior Citizens and the Golden Tones. She loved to play the button accordion and playing sheepshead cards.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law: George A. and Mae Swagel; Ray and Betty Swagel all of Kewaunee; nine grandchildren: Kathy Swagel; Geri (Steve) Bacheller; Joan (Glen) Wallace; Joseph Swagel; William Swagel; Milton Swagel; James (Tammy) Swagel; Michael Swagel and Barb (Rick) Meister; eleven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one grandson: Nathan Swagel; two brothers: James (Emma) Blahnik; Ed (Sybil) Blahnik and one sister: Julia (Anton) Kalcik.

Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Buchanan Funeral Home, Kewaunee. A parish wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Visitation continues at the funeral home on Wednesday until 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Rosary Church, Kewaunee with Fr. Dennis Drury officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Krok.

Michael Paplham, 58, Kewaunee, died Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at Aurora BayCare Medical Center following a farm accident.

 He was born May 6, 1951, in Kewaunee, to the late Melvin and Anne (Seidl) Paplham. He attended Holy Rosary Grade School and graduated from Kewaunee High School with the Class of 1969. Mike married Sherry Langer, Dec. 19, 1986, at Holy Rosary Church in Kewaunee.

He was a lifelong member of Holy Rosary Church. Mike was a fourth generation farmer of the original Paplham Century Farm. He also owned and operated Paplham Livestock Trucking along with Pete Cherovsky. Mike and Sherry donated part of their land to the Heritage Farm, and he was a very active volunteer.

Mike was a devoted husband and father who cherished his children more than anything; they were his pride and joy. He was dedicated to his wife and family and will be deeply missed by all.

Survivors include his wife, Sherry; one daughter, Jackie Paplham, one son, Kevin Paplham, both at home; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Jim and Jane Paplham, Dick and Becky Paplham, Mark Paplham (special friend, Pam), all of Kewaunee; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Marge and Phil Zinn, Melva Kumbalek, both of Two Rivers; Mary and Tom Ferry, Pilsen; Barb and Mark Schroeder, Kewaunee; mother-in-law and father-in-law, James and Mary Alyce Langer, Kewaunee; one sister-in-law, Debbie Langer (special friend, Dave Dworak); two brothers-in-law, Jim Langer Jr. and Steve (Kelly) Langer, both of Kewaunee; his God Parents, Quentin and Mary Reinke, Green Bay; and 19 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by twin sons, Scott and Brian Paplham and a sister, Nancy Paplham.

Friends may call after 3 p.m. Sunday, May 2, at Buchanan Funeral Home, Kewaunee. A parish wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday. Visitation continues at the funeral home on Monday until 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Holy Rosary Church, Kewaunee with Fr. Larry Seidl, Mike's cousin, officiating. Burial will be in the Holy Rosary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established in Mike's memory.

The family would like to thank the Carlton First Responders and Fire Department, the Kewaunee Ambulance Service, the Kewaunee County Sheriff Department, and neighbors and friends for their love and support during this difficult time.
