Catherine C. Murphy (Blahnik)
Catherine C. Murphy, 101, formerly of Kewaunee died on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008, at Bornemann Nursing Home, Green Bay. She was born in Algoma, Wis., on Feb. 7, 1906, to the late Frank and Barbara (Blahnik) Jirtle. Catherine graduated from St. Mary's Grade School, Algoma, Algoma High School, Milwaukee State Teachers College and two summer sessions at U. W. Madison. She taught school at Washburn, Wis. and White Lake, Wis.

She married Aaron G. Murphy June 16, 1933, at St. Mary's Church in Algoma and he preceded her in death Feb. 19, 2000. Catherine grew up in Algoma and moved to Kewaunee, where she lived for 69 years. She and her husband always had a summer home out of Armstrong Creek and later at Goodman, Wis., where she and her daughter moved in spring 2003. On Dec. 29, 2006, she moved to Bornemann Nursing Home where she resided until now.

She was a member of Holy Rosary Church, Kewaunee and St. Joan of Arc Church, Goodman, Wis. She was a charter member of the Daughters of Isabella and served as regent and organist for many years, was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and Rosary Society.

Survivors include Karen (John) DeQuardo, Waukesha; Barbara (Al) Blackbird, Livingston, Texas; Michael J. Murphy, Green Bay; Sheelagh (Ray) Jaudon, Houston, Texas; Patrick F. Murphy, Cecil, Wis.; and Bridgit Murphy, Goodman, Wis.; 17 grandchildren and 14 great- grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Irene (Tony) Ursula (Emil) Ullsperger, Green Bay, Wis. and Lake Breeze, Fla. and an infant daughter.

Friends may call after 9 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at Holy Rosary Church, Kewaunee, until time of services. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the church at 11 a.m. with Msgr. Ralph Meratoris officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Algoma.
