Joseph and Anna Cherney had a son named Richard.   Richard Sylvester Elmer  Blahnik discovered he has a genetic blood condition called Factor V Leiden.  The family sent a letter in 2007 notifying people that blood thinners can help.  If you suspect you may have this genetic condition, please consult your doctor.  We have not had any reports from other Blahnik families regarding this condition, but as a courtesy to family, they chose to let medical knowledge be known in case others may have similar problems.

NIAGARA, Wis. - Joseph Richard Blahnik, 66, of 90 Jefferson Ave., Niagara, Wis., passed away on Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010, at Dickinson County Healthcare System following a lengthy battle with cancer.

He was born in Daggett on Sept. 11, 1944, the son of Richard and Frances (Margetta) Blahnik. He was raised in Carney where he went to school, worked on his parent's farm and enjoyed high school sports.
He married Elisabeth M. Hammer on July 21, 1967, in Bruckmuhl, Bayern, West Germany; she survives.
He served in the United States Army from 1963-1967 and 1975-1978, when he was honorably discharged. He was employed at UPS in Escanaba and Iron Mountain before retiring in 2006.
He enjoyed time spent with his family, traveling, and playing a great variety of activities including: softball, basketball, tennis, bowling, golf, pool, playing cards, walking and playing with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his father, Richard E. Blahnik of Wells; two daughters, Elisabeth (Bobby) Nichols of Niagara and Stephanie Blahnik of St. Cloud, Minn.; two sons, Josef (Sara) Blahnik of Louisville, Tenn., and Richard Blahnik of Iron Mountain; seven grandchildren; three sisters, Mary Lu (Matt) Gaudette of Gladstone, Theresa Kolich and Peggy (Don) Clark of Escanaba; and two brothers, Kenneth (Barb) Blahnik of Carney and Thomas Blahnik of Escanaba.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Frances R. Blahnik; and brother-in-law, Anthony Kolich.

Private family services were held at home.  The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the arrangements.
