FRANK JOHN⁶ BLAHNIK (GEORGE⁵,GEORG⁴, GEORGIUS³, JACOBUS², WENCESLAUS¹) was born May 23, 1876 in Ahnapee, Kewaunee, Co., WI, and died June 23, 1942 in Neenah, WI (Source: Winnebago County Records, vol pg 271.). He married MARIE HOLUB May 31, 1898 in St. Mary's Church, Algoma, WI - Wedding photo left.   (Source: vol B page 361 Kewaunee Co. marriages, (2) vol B page 361 Kewaunee Co. marriages, daughter of MATHIAS HOLUB and MARY BILY. She was born August 10, 1879 in Ahnapee, Kewaunee, Co., WI, and died January 27, 1968 in Neenah, WI (Source: Winnebago County Records deaths, vol 120 pg 114. Frank owned and operated the Blacksmith Shop on Main Street Neenah.  Both had brown eyes and hair.  All of Mary Holub's brothers had blonde hair with blue eyes.  The Holub and Geo. Blahnik family lived on neighboring farms in Ahnapee Twp.  Marie never attended formal school.  She said women's roles (at that time) were to care for the family and that was what she was trained to do at home.  In her older years Marie had Pernicious Anemia.  Frank worked for the City during the great Depression.  He was also known to have made some of his own 'moonshine' during Prohibition.

(1920's-30's) The L.A. Carey Barbecue was the restaurant owned and operated by their daughter Beatrice (Blahnik) and her husband Lyndon Carey.  (Newspaper refers to the old Highway 41 - not 41's current location.)  The restaurant was on current Highway 47 leaving Appleton toward Menasha, WI (in the area of what was once called Valley Fair Shopping Mall)

Home at 214 Main Street in Neenah, WI.  At one time the water came up to side of Main Street just in front of their home.  It was later filled in to make a place for the Bergstrom Mill (this building was torn down in the 2000's).  A Blacksmith shop once stood behind this house with a barn that was erected partially in their back yard and partially on the alley.  This would allow buggies and horses to come in one side and exit out the back right onto the road way.  Here is a photo of the house from the front.  It was taken in about 2010 but looks much like it did when I recall the place in 1963. The barn was torn down in the late 1960's at the request of the city.

Frank Blahnik Passes at Neenah Home; Services Held Thursday

Frank Blahnik, native of Kodan, and a blacksmith and wagon maker in Algoma about 40 years ago, died at his home in Neenah. Tuesday morning and funeral services were held from a Catholic church in that city Thursday morning at 10 o'clock. Burial was also at Neenah.
Mr. Blahnik had been ill with a tonsil infection for over half a year and this illness brought about complications resulting in his death.
Deceased was born at Kodan the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Blahnik, 66 years ago and followed the blacksmith trade all his life. He had a blacksmith shop in Algoma for some time later selling it to John Entringer, and about 30 years ago he went to DePere and after a five years residence in that city, moved to Neenah where he had since made his home.
He married Mary Holub in Algoma in May 1898, and there are surviving with Mrs. Blahnik two sons, Norbert, at home, and Richard, Appleton, and one daughter, Mrs. Linden (Beatrice) Carey. Five brothers and two sisters also remain - Charles, Kodan; Wenzel, Lena; Louis, Ewen, Mich.; Simon and Emil, Algoma: Mrs. Frank Hucek, Forestville, and Mrs. John Barta, Two Rivers.
